More than 12,000 lbs. of imported smoked bacon have been recalled after a federal food safety alert identified a missed inspection requirement for products brought into the United States from Canada.

The recall was announced by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, known as FSIS, in a July 24 alert. The agency said the bacon was imported without undergoing a required U.S. import inspection.

The affected bacon is not ready to eat and was produced by Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., which is located in Lisle, Illinois. The products were distributed to grocery distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

According to the USDA, the issue was discovered during routine inspection activities. The alert did not state that any illnesses had been confirmed in connection with the recalled bacon.

The USDA classified the recall as Class I, which is its most serious recall category. FSIS defines a Class I recall as a "health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

At the same time, the Class I designation reflects the potential risk tied to the inspection failure. The alert said it does not indicate any confirmed illnesses linked to consumption of the bacon.

The recalled products were produced on June 9, June 10, June 12, June 13 and June 15, 2026. The affected items include specific 12 ounce vacuum packages sold under two product labels.

One recalled item is a 12 ounce vacuum package of "Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon Product of Canada." The affected packages have sell by dates of "SEP 01 2026" and "SEP 07 2026" printed on the side of the package.

The recall also includes a 12 ounce vacuum package of "TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon PRODUCT OF CANADA." Those packages have various sell by dates of "SEP 01 2026", "SEP 02 2026", "SEP 04 2026", "SEP 05 2026", and "SEP 07 2026" printed on the side of the package.

The recalled product has the Canadian establishment number "EST. 1" printed on the side of the package, according to the USDA alert. The agency also identified the affected products through information on the master case boxes.

Health officials advised anyone who has the recalled bacon in a refrigerator or freezer to either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. The alert did not provide any additional consumer instructions beyond that guidance.
