Kai Trump is recovering after undergoing another wrist surgery for an injury connected to golf. President Trump’s eldest grandchild shared the news Wednesday through an Instagram update from her hospital bed.
The 19 year old included a selfie showing her left arm secured in a cast and sling. She announced that the procedure had been successful while addressing the difficult interruption to her competitive golf career.
A statement included with the post said Trump suffered the wrist injury during her first tournament of the season. She competes as a golfer on the University of Miami women’s golf team.
Trump said she had initially hoped that surgery would not be necessary. After discussions with the people closest to her and those involved in her athletic career, however, she decided to proceed with the operation.
"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches and athletic training staff, I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love," she said.
The athlete acknowledged that the surgery and recovery would alter the months ahead. Her statement presented the medical setback as an unexpected change that she intends to meet with persistence.
"It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."
Trump said her recovery will "take time." She also described herself as "incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow."
The golfer emphasized the role of that support as she begins recovering from the procedure. "Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful," she added.
Trump received treatment at Hospital for Special Surgery, also known as HSS, in New York City. She thanked Dr. Carlson and the medical team, along with the relatives, teammates and coaches who have supported her.
"A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me, and to my teammates, coaches, family and everyone who has supported me along the way," Kai Trump said.
Her immediate attention is now centered on recovery and eventually rejoining the University of Miami team. "For now, it’s all about healing , and trusting the process."
Trump expressed confidence that she would return to golf with an even greater sense of appreciation. "I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love."
She concluded her Instagram message with a promise to return and a show of support for Miami. "I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"
The latest procedure follows another wrist surgery that Trump discussed during a July appearance on "Fox & Friends." At that time, she said the earlier operation had taken place six months before the interview.
During that appearance, Trump also spoke about entering her freshman year and beginning a Division I golf career at the University of Miami. She admitted that the transition made her feel "a little nervous."
"[I'm] a little nervous, I'm not gonna lie, but I'm ready for the next chapter," she said. "And I love my siblings. I am not far away from them, like an hour and a half away."
Trump has also addressed the source of her competitive nature. When asked where she developed her "competitive edge," she identified both her mother and her grandfather as possible influences.
"My mom's competitive, too, but definitely Grandpa's very competitive," she said.
Trump was photographed playing tee shots during The Annika at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14, 2025. Her latest hospital update now documents the surgery and the recovery period interrupting her time on the course.
