Kai Trump opened up about an emotional start to college, sharing the strain of leaving home, joining the University of Miami women’s golf team and becoming sick during her first week of classes.

The 19 year old granddaughter of President Donald Trump documented the transition in a video posted to her YouTube channel.

The footage followed her from her final days in Jupiter, Florida, through her arrival in Miami and the beginning of her responsibilities as a freshman.

Before moving, Kai played a round of golf and then discussed her feelings during the drive home. Leaving behind her family, friends and familiar routine proved more emotional than she had expected.

"I’ve been, like, literally sobbing," she said.

Kai explained that she does not ordinarily consider herself a particularly emotional person. However, the approaching goodbyes and the reality of moving away left her struggling as she prepared for the change.

"I’m just struggling right now just, like, thinking about it, but, like, I’m excited."

Her transition came as she was also spending meaningful time with her mother, Vanessa Trump, during her breast cancer battle. Kai previously spoke to Fox News Digital about starting college, joining the golf team and being with her mother during that period.

Once Kai reached Miami, her best friend, Emma, helped her settle into her apartment. Emma also arrived with groceries and frozen food as the busy move disrupted Kai’s normal eating routine.

"Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven't eaten in like three days," Kai said in the video.

The video then shifted toward the demands of college life as Kai began balancing academics with her place on the University of Miami women’s golf team. On her first Monday, she noted that she had a team meeting scheduled for 7 a.m.

"I’m very tired if you guys cannot tell by my face," she said while getting ready.

Kai also showed viewers the official gear she received from the University of Miami women’s golf program. The haul included Miami branded apparel, specialized practice equipment and other golf items for the team season.

The vlog captured her first team practice as she began adjusting to her new athletic schedule. At the same time, classes were getting underway, adding academic responsibilities to the early meetings and golf commitments.

However, Kai’s first week on campus was interrupted shortly after classes started. She became sick with strep on Wednesday and left Miami to return to Jupiter.

"I got sick with strep on Wednesday, my first week of school," Kai told viewers later in the vlog.

Her illness brought her back to the home and family routine she had just found so difficult to leave. Kai said she was sick enough that she wanted care from her mother while she recovered.

"I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed, like, my mom to nurse me back to health."

Kai is the elder daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex wife, Vanessa Trump. Her video presented the move as a mix of sadness, exhaustion and excitement while she navigated goodbyes, an apartment move, college classes and her new role on the golf team.
